Upon entering, always become familar with the posted EHS Procedures & Response Guide which has specific information to respond to emergencies and make oneself aware of safety regulations.

Rules for booking equipment:
If you booked shared equipment without indicating your email address and lab affiliation your booking is invalid and will be removed.
People from outside of BCMP, on-quad laboratories can only book equipment 7 days in advance.

Liquid nitrogen is available at two locations, they are in the SG Mudd Bldg., Rm. 314 and C Bldg., across from Rm. 207. Please follow all safety regulations, use the face shields that are available and bring your own cryo gloves.

The Center for Macromolecular Interactions (CMI) is a shared instrument facility in the BCMP department for biophysical characterization of macromolecules and their interactions.  Technologies at the CMI include:

Applied Biosystems 7500 FAST Real Time PCR System, located in C2-325a (Struhl lab). To reserve time on the machine, sign up using the Google calendar on the computer located in 325 (ask anyone in the lab for help).  Please limit your time to no more than 3 hours during weekday working hours (defined as 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM).  You may sign up for additional slots with the understanding that you may have to give them up upon request to anyone who hasn't used their PCR time allotment for the day.  In order to claim such slots, the person needing the slots must contact the person holding the extra slot(s) no later than 30 minutes prior to the start time of the slot.  On weekends, please be considerate and don't reserve an unreasonable amount of time.
If you must cancel a reserved time slot, please do it well IN ADVANCE.
IF YOU DON'T KNOW HOW TO USE THE MACHINE, please talk to Joe Geisberg, (C2-315).  DON'T attempt to use it if you haven't been trained.  BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CONTAMINATE THE INSTRUMENT.  Report any problems to Joe Geisberg, (joseph_geisberg@hms.harvard.edu).

Back-up cold storage, -80 Freezers

There are two -80 freezers available for use as emergency back-up, in case your freezer fails, or if you need temporary storage, while defrosting your freezer, for 3 days only.

Shon's Scientific Refrigeration, 24 hr service, (781)-326-1947, should be able to rent you a loaner freezer , diagnose and quote to repair your freezer, in that amount of time.

This will allow a freezer to be available for others, that may be in need. Contents must be arranged in a tidy fashion, so more can be accommodated without rearrangement.

Call Facilities at 2-1901, when the freezers will be opened for any length of time, as the alarm will sound and Facilities will dispatch a worker to investigate.

There is a 3 ring binder attached to each of the freezer doors, that must be filled out with 24 hr. contact information and the content list of the freezer, in case of any emergency situation.

There is a -80 “VWR”, (4 shelf, 30”W x 26”D x 12”H), -20 freezer and a deli cabinet, located in the S.G. Mudd Bldg.,  Room 334.

The “-80 Big Revco”, TLE, (5 shelf , 28”W x 23”D x 9.5”H), there is a new location, it is C Bldg., Rm. 123 and there is a push button lock, with the combination of 2351. The access instructions have been sent to Principal Investigator’s and BCMP Contacts.
